Source And Licenses
Last updated: July 15, 2026
The Nexus Archive is built around serious reading of source texts. This page explains the difference between public-domain or licensed source texts and original Nexus materials.
1. What The Nexus Archive Owns
The Nexus Archive owns or reserves rights in its original materials, including the service, software, design, organization, curation, Quest structure, editorial framing, source metadata, notes, Honors, badges, copy, and visual assets.
You may not copy, redistribute, scrape, bulk download, sell, or exploit original Nexus materials or paid features without permission.
2. Public-Domain Source Texts
The Nexus Archive does not claim ownership over public-domain source texts.
Many works in The Nexus Archive come from public-domain editions, public archives, public-source repositories, or open-license sources.
Where a source text is public domain, your rights to use that text come from the source's legal status, not from The Nexus Archive.
3. U.S. Public-Domain Posture
The Nexus Archive is intended for U.S. users at launch. Public-domain status can vary by country. A work that is public domain in the United States may not be public domain everywhere.
4. Source Providers
The Nexus Archive may use source texts or reference data from providers such as Project Gutenberg, Wikisource, Internet Archive, public libraries, public government archives, Creative Commons sources, and other public or open repositories.
Source providers do not endorse The Nexus Archive unless expressly stated.
The Nexus Archive should identify source provider, source URL, translator/editor where known, edition or publication year where known, and rights basis where practical.
5. Project Gutenberg
Some source texts may be based on materials made available by Project Gutenberg.
Project Gutenberg has its own trademark and license terms. The Nexus Archive does not imply that Project Gutenberg endorses The Nexus Archive.
Paid plans support the Nexus app experience, account features, curation, study tools, and original materials. Paid plans do not sell ownership of Project Gutenberg materials or public-domain source texts.
6. Open-License Materials
Some materials may be available under open licenses, such as Creative Commons licenses. Where required, The Nexus Archive should provide attribution, source links, license information, and modification notes.
