Life

L. Frank Baum was an American author best known for creating the Land of Oz. His early Oz novels combine fairy-tale invention with comic adventure, technological imagination, and repeated questions about belonging and home.

The question

“What do travelers discover in one another while trying to find the way home?”

Argued against

Inherited fairy-tale cruelty, fixed social roles, and the assumption that courage or intelligence must come from authority.

Why Baum matters

Baum created one of the most recognizable American fantasy worlds and an unusually accessible doorway into quest-shaped reading.
